| Carolina Cardiovascular Biology Center
The Carolina Cardiovascular Biology Center, which was established in
2000, is a multidisciplinary, multidepartmental facility that serves as
a focal point for interactions among basic, translational, and clinical
scientists studying all aspects of cardiovascular disease. Areas of
specific interest include atherosclerosis and other vascular diseases,
angiogenesis and cardiovascular development, cardiovascular physiology,

| CARDIOTHORACIC SURGERY
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery performs more than 800 major
cardiothoracic procedures each year with over 200 of them in children.
Special clinical interests of the division include treatment of
congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, ventricular
tachyrhythmias, acquired valvular disease, cardiac trauma and the
management of patients with end stage heart disease including cardiac

The University of North Carolina Heart Center is an ongoing
collaboration of a multidisciplinary team that produces comprehensive
